Dear Parent/Guardian:
As of September 7, 2023, Miami R-I has received notification of (4) cases of Hand/Foot/Mouth Disease in the Elementary School. This is a viral infection that is spread by respiratory secretions and feces. Good handwashing and hygiene practices are essential to prevent transmission of this disease. A child (and adults with lowered immune systems) are capable of spreading Hand/Foot/Mouth Disease for a period of up to (1) week in respiratory droplets and (6) weeks in feces. Symptoms may vary, but is typically defined by a skin rash that may (or may not) include palms of hands and soles of feet and buttocks, canker-type sores in the throat and mouth, mild fever, poor appetite, “feeling sick”, and frequently a sore throat. This disease should be diagnosed by a physician, but it cannot be treated or medicated (as is the case with other viral infections). If you suspect that your child may have Hand/Foot/Mouth Disease, please exclude him/her from school during the acute stage of illness or until they are able to return to routine activities. Please be advised that this is not considered a serious illness or health threat; However, if someone in your household is pregnant or suffering from an existing illness, please notify your health care professional. If you have any questions concerning Hand/Foot/Mouth Disease, please call the school nurse at 267-3495, or call the Bates County Health Center at 660-679-6108. Thank you for your attention in this matter! Donna Dodds, LPN School Nurse |
Info. for Jr. Parents/Guardians
Dear Parents and Guardians of Juniors, Every year the Junior class is in charge of raising money for prom. They have the opportunity to raise the needed funds during the school year with two fundraisers. The amount needed is $250 profit per student. Profit indicates the money they earn from the fundraisers to spend on prom, not the amount they have sold. The money they raise goes towards the decorations and crowns. Please be aware that if an 11th grade student does not raise their share of the funds needed and still intends to attend prom, they will need to pay the fee themselves. If they choose not to participate in the fundraisers and do not pay the fee, they cannot attend prom. Thank you, Junior Sponsor Jessica Kimbrough |

23-24 Student Accident Insurance
Our school/district has selected the Student Insurance Plan from K&K Insurance Group to make reliable coverage available to parents. If you don’t have other insurance, this plan may be a resource to consider. Additionally, even if you have other coverage, this plan can help fill expensive “gaps” caused by deductible and co-pays. Coverage may be purchased at any time during the school year by visiting. www.studentinsurance-kk.com |
