Nov. 2024- These Miami JH students recently attended the West Central Missouri Music Educators Association District Honor Choir in Warrensburg. They performed with 150 students from around the District under the direction of Kurtis Heinrich of St. Louis.

On Thursday, April 11th, the 4th, 5th & 6h grade classes took a field trip to JCCC where we saw the performance "Alice:Dreaming of Wonderland" at Yardley Hall. It was a fun trip and we thank the Midwest Trust Center for the bus grant!
On Tuesday, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classes took a field trip to Kaufman Center to see the KC Symphony and their performance of "Because", a children's book by Mo Willems inspired by musicians.

Select students from Miami attended the WCMMEA 5/6th grade Honor Choir on Sat. in Warrensburg. Each group contained 100+ students from around the District. 6th grade was directed by Rachel Middaugh. The 5th grade clinician was ill so Mrs. Groves directed the 5th grade for 1 of their pieces. It was an awesome experience for everyone!

2022-23 Band students recently attended GVVC Conference Mass Band @ Cottey College in Nevada. Sheldon, Bronaugh & Hume students also attended making up the 40+ Band. They were directed by Dr. Jackie Lordo.

Thanks to some generous donations from the Adrian Optimist Club, Addleman Farms, Citizens Bank, Wesley Hubbard and Randy Weiss (Amsterdam Cafe) our music room is getting a transformation! New seating for all music students grades K-12 will make the room more conducive to learning, more comfortable and more fun! Thanks everyone for your financial support- we are so blessed!!!

JH District Honor Band was held on Sat, Dec. 10, 2022 in Sedalia. Miami had 5 students selected to attend. Each band had over 100 members and was directed by Matthew Willis (7th grade) and Bridgett Randolph (8th grade).

Miami Sophomore Abby Downs recently attended MSHSAA Music Contest at Grain Valley H.S. She received a 2 rating (Silver- Excellent) for her clarinet solo, "Sarabande and Bouree" by Handel. 21/22 THERE'S a SONG in the AIR!!! (2021)
Band will be playing handchimes at the SawMill on Main Street Thursday @ 5:30. Christmas Caroling will be Friday night @ 5:30 on Main Street. |

4/21/22 Guest guitarist Hank Roberts visited the guitar class today! We prepared some songs and played along as he gave tips and pointers about choosing strumming patterns and embellishments. We played “Angel Band”, “Blowin’ in the Wind”, “Nowhere Man” and “Country Roads”. Thanks Hank!

Nov. 2020 Thanks to the Cookie dough/popcorn fundraiser and a very generous private donation, we were able to purchase a new concert bass drum w/ accessories and 17 classroom guitars!

Congratulations! To Miami Senior Jayden Reitz who received a silver medal at MSHSAA State Music Contest on his trumpet solo. He played “Trumpet Suite” (mvt’s 1 & 2) by Fitzgerald. After canceling the contest last Spring, this year’s contest was held virtually due to COVID.

Congratulations to Miami sophomore Whalen Downs and Miami Freshman Danny Embrey who each received a silver rating (Outstanding) at MSHSAA District music contest on Sat. Whalen played a Beethoven Sonatina and Danny played from the Burgmuller series. Songs have to be memorized and last a minimum of minutes. Both are piano students of Melissa Groves.
