The purpose of school is to prepare students for their future. It’s amazing to think that some of the careers our students will get haven’t even been created yet! Just think of the jobs available now that didn’t exist 10 years ago:  App Designer and Developer, Smart Product Developer, Social Media Manager, and Web Analyst are just a few.  These cutting edge careers all have one thing in common; they utilize technology and 21st century skills.  Technology allows opportunities never before imaginable. Many current jobs are incorporating new technology at a rapid pace.  Our students need to be able to use this technology.

Miami has already begun getting our students prepared for these careers by ensuring all of our preschool through 12th grade students have access to an iPad or laptop. In order to take the devices home, the students must pay a technology fee.  To lighten the burden on our families, the school has lowered the fee to $20/student, which only covers a small percentage of the total cost of implementing the program.

The proceeds from the Miami R-I “iRace to Set the Pace for Miami’s Future” 5k will help defray the additional required expenses not covered by the reduced technology fee.
